Beaches

Kicking back is what it is all about! It's no surprise that visitors relish the thought of coming here to relax and kickback. We have also got a number of attractive white sandy beaches, sheltered by steep hills and large rocks.

Some beaches on the island are uninhabited and offer nearly complete solitude while others offer many restaurants and plenty of choice with regard to accommodation. This is where travelers meet can enjoy the company of other travelers and chat about the state of the world.

      Sairee Beach

Facing the mainland, which you can see on a clear day, Sairee Beach is a long beautifully curved beach, stretching roughly 2 miles. Palm trees and vegetation grow wildly, creating a green border between the beach and the island itself. There is a wide variety of Resorts & Restaurants options on Sairee Beach, making it a popular spot for travelers. It is also a perfect spot for snorkeling enthusiasts and divers, since the coral reef starts just 100 meters off the beach.

      Mae Haad Beach

Mae Haad Beach is home to some nice sun bathing spots and to a couple of Koh Tao's more rustic resorts.

The beach is ideal for kids being very shallow and no traffic means even more safety. It's a good place to snorkel and besides lot's of tropical fish the world below also offers a large wooden shipwreck: which once upon a time stranded on the reef.

We warmly recommend Mae Haad Beach, it's a great spot to stay on - the accommodation facilities are excellent. It's quiet and secluded, there is great snorkeling nearby and it isn't far from good seafood restaurant and diving facilities.

Accommodation and activities on Mae Haad Beach : There are plenty of dining options on the far end of Mae Haad. One end of the beach is where all the boats from Koh Phangan and Koh Samui arrive - here there is also a large selection of shops and sea food restaurants. On the other end you will find all the resorts.

      Hin Wong Bay

Similar to Tanote Bay, it's an adventure in itself going to Hin Wong Bay. It is only accessible by 4 wheel drive, but once there you will truly find yourself protected by steep hills overgrown with jungle growth and a view of a beautiful bay. There is currently one or two resorts in Hin Wong Bay and a couple of restaurants, so it is a great spot for weary travelers wishing to get away from it all. Hin Wong Bay also offers great snorkeling. The sheltered bay is teeming with marine life in many colors and sizes.

      Chalok Baan Kao Beach

Chalok Baan Kao is located on the southernmost tip of Koh Tao facing the Ang Thong Marine Park, made famous by Alex Garland's 'The Beach'. It's one of the most popular beach on Koh Tao, and understably so. It's simply beautiful.

Chalok Baan Kao is an ideal location for families. The beach is beautiful, the water warm and shallow and there are no speedboats roaming on the surface. There are plenty of restaurants and good snorkelling nearby in Rocky Bay.

Chalok Baan Kao is located on the southernmost tip of Koh Tao. It faces Ang Thong Marine Park, which was made famous by the movie that starred Leonardo Di Caprio. It's one of the most popular beach on Koh Tao, and understably so. It's simply beautiful.

      Aow Leuk Beach

Also known as Deep Water Bay, Aow Leuk is a top spot for snorkelling. The bay is surrounded by steep hills and is only accessible by boat or by a small path from Rocky Bay. Nevertheless it is well visited by travellers who know a quality beach when they see one. The beach itself is around 200 meters long and absolutely crispy white. There is one resort in Aow Leuk with offers very basic accommodation and one restaurant.

      Haad Sai Daeng Beach

Really part of Rocky Bay, Haad Sai Daeng is a beautiful little cove on the southern tip of Koh Tao. Haad Sai Daeng is very nice spot to relax in solitude with a book on the beach or going for a swim to Shark Island. Haad Sai Daeng Resort offers bungalows and a nice restaurant for guests.

      Mango Bay

Named for all the mango trees that grow on it's steep hills, Mango Bay is a favorite spot for day trippers from Koh Samui. It's a crescent shaped bay with a small coral beach and great snorkelling only 20 meter off shore. Mango Bay is uninhabited since it is only accessible by boat. A beautiful spot and a must if you are visiting Koh Tao.

      Rocky Bay

Famous for its Blacktip Reef Shark population, Rocky Bay is also a beautiful little beach on which to spend a lazy afternoon sunbathing. There is only one resort in Rocky Bay, namely Rocky Bay Resort which offers a variety of sizes of bungalows.

From Rocky Bay you have a nice view of Shark Island, but a swim away (just check the current first), which is one of the favourite dive spots on the island. It's also a perfect spot to catch the sunrise
